Reel Gems present: Fallen
After witnessing the execution of serial killer Edgar Reese (Elias Koteas), police detective John Hobbes (Denzel Washington), and his partner Jonesy (John Goodman), are soon investigating another murderer whose mode of operation is eerily similar to that of Reese. During the investigation, Hobbes meets theology professor Gretta Milano (Embeth Davidtz), who introduces him to the world of the occult and the possibility that an evil spirit is behind the killings.
Two time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington is rightly regarding as one of the greatest dramatic actors of all time, but during the 1990's he also made extensive forays into the realm of genre cinema (and we here at Reel Gems are ready to argue that 1998's FALLEN is among the very best). Denzel isn't alone in this excellent film as he is joined by an all-star cast that includes Elias Koteas, John Goodman, Donald Sutherland and James Gandolfini.
Blurring the line between the psychological thriller and supernatural horror, Gregory Hoblit's FALLEN is an underappreciated genre treat, and exactly the type of film Reel Gems Film Club was made to celebrate!
Runtime: 124 minutes
Director: Gregory Hoblit
Cast: Denzel Washington, John Goodman, James Gandolfini
