Welcome back to CULT SCHOOL at CULTPLEX, where the syllabus is the world of cult film! 

For the second session of 2026, presenter and author Nathan Lunn (@geordiefilmsclass) stomps onto the scene for Kaiju 101: Monstrous Trauma Writ Large. Delving into a body of cinema so massive its presence is globally shared, unavoidable and entirely mutable, our session will explore cinematic allegories for history’s nuclear disasters, wartime devastation and terrorist crises in the big city, and the monstrous ways that the trauma from these tragedies can manifest across our screens. CULT SCHOOL isn’t academic, it’s an enthusiastic dive into why these films continue to fascinate cult fans, horror heads, and film critics around the world.

 

This session is led by Nathan Lunn, North-Eastern writa’, researcha’ and enthusiastic disciple of genra’ film. As director of Geordie Film’s Class, his exploration of cinema has taken him down all avenues of thought and theory, researching into the further reaches of genre film to uncover the gems hiding within, presenting the discovered delights in screenings, talks, writing and passion. His book on Kaiju themes, They Come from Planet Earth! comes out later this year.
