Spit in the Lock is a Manchester based film club that screens films that depict the exquisite ache of unrequited yearning. Catch us across the city showing movies that explore the melancholic, romantic longing of forbidden love.
Set in the height of the 1970s glam rock era, Velvet Goldmine follows the rise and fall of the rock star Brian Slade, as seen through the eyes of former fan and journalist Arthur Stuart. As Slade navigates the pitfalls of fame, including rocky relationships with his wife Mandy and his lover Curt Wild, in the present day, Stuart gets increasingly enraptured by the story of the mysterious music star. An unapologetically queer, sparkle studded, platform shoe filled wonder of music movie and romance drama, Todd Haynes' under seen masterpiece is an incredible tribute to glam rock, fandom, and queerness.
