Perhaps the most disturbing feature film of the weekend, GASP! is proud to present this intense yet utterly thought-provoking look at homophobia within religion. God Country does so much more than just present its queer characters as just victims; it’s a layered film with layered, interesting and empowered protagonists and so much sincerity that is a result of the film being made from a deeply personal place. It’s a very well-made, very well-written and very well-acted film that depicts a nightmare scenario with horrifying imagery, buckets of suspense and a look at both religious hypocrisy and the traumatic impact of discrimination.
