Anti-Reality Image Network presents… The Exiles

ANTI-REALITY IMAGE NETWORK PRESENTS… THE EXILES (1961) A FUNDRAISER FOR THE NATIVE AMERICAN RIGHTS FUND!

Bunker Hill, Los Angeles is an area well-chronicled in mid-century American cinema. From Kiss Me Deadly to Criss Cross, it is often sold as a dark and seedy hotbed for film noir intrigue. In 1961, British filmmaker cast a whole new light on Bunker Hill with his film The Exiles. Part documentary, part teen melodrama, the film follows a group of Native American teenagers who have left their reservation to be that most American of things… teenagers. Filled with squalid dive bars, rock n’ roll music, and immaculate nighttime photography, The Exiles is a landmark in independent cinema - one of the first films to explore what real contemporary life was like for Native communities, after decades of villainisation.

Anti-Reality Image Network is proud to present a rare opportunity to see The Exiles as intended - on the big screen. This screening is to raise money for the Native American Rights Fund (NARF). California is currently in the midst of a serious water crisis, one that is disproportionately impacting the very communities shown in this film. Given the current restrictions on protest in the United States NARF does vital work providing legal aid to protestors, and ensuring Native rights are protected.

So make sure to come down this January for a fantastic opportunity to see The Exiles at Cultplex, and help a good cause to boot!
