The fourth in a year-long series of feature and short film screenings presented by Obscure Film at Cultplex in 2026!
Each of the Genre Identities programmes will feature two hours of short films by local and international filmmakers, exploring the relationship between themes and concepts of a wide variety of film genres and the identities of themselves and their communities.
This bumper screening features short films created by filmmakers living with disabilities, chronic illnesses or neurodiversity. The programme includes horror, drama, romance, comedy, animation and a delicious mix of all sorts of genre concoctions.
I Wish I Was There (2026), dir. Flora Martyr
Whilst relaxing abroad on a solo holiday, a woman receives a series of phone calls from the hospital. She decides to ignore these in effect to enjoy her vacation, but her imagination gets the better of her. An unpleasant time ensues, with the growing realisation that she needs to confront her fears.

Spectrum (2024), dir. Rick Stanton

Through his journey, we witness the transformative power of acceptance and the untapped potential for greatness within every individual, no matter where they fall on the spectrum.

What begins as a solo investigation into the thoroughness of her healthcare, evolves into a larger re-imagining of the metrics we use to measure our well-being and the importance of community in healing.
