Screening as part of our CRUEL BRITANNIA season
A smash hit with audiences, The Football Factory spurred a number of low-budget imitations, many of them feeding a lively straight-to-DVD British indie scene, which itself offered a much needed foot in the door for the kind of working-class filmmakers too often shut out of the filmmaking mainstream.
Nick Love’s films are far less politically didactic than Loach’s – we’re not told that we need to decipher why these men enjoy being violent, we just know that they are!
The Football Factory is more than just a study of the English obsession with football violence, it's about men looking for armies to join, wars to fight and places to belong. A forgotten culture of Anglo Saxon males fed up with being told they're not good enough and using their fists as a drug they describe as being more potent than sex and drugs put together.
This screening is 18+, and will feature subtitles to aid accessibility.
The event will begin at the advertised time above.
