This thesis on auto-canibalism and voyuerism stands as a slight outlier in the New Extremity movement, being one of the few films directed, written and starring a woman. A precursor to the works of Julia Ducournau and Coralie Fargeat (and undoubtedly an influence on RAW) this film is a deeply distressing, incredibly resonant and shocking portrayal of the dysmorphia forced upon women under patriarchal society.

Esther (director Marina de Van) develops a fixation on her own flesh following an injury at a party that triggers within her the desire for self-mutilation. Featuring a very small cast of disturbing French film all stars including Laurent Lucas (Raw, Calvaire, Pola X), Léa Drucker (Last Summer, Incredible But True) and Dominique Reymond (Demonlover, Ma Mere, Junkyard Dog) it's a very singular film that almost defies definition.
