Each year, GASP! includes an anniversary screening of a horror classic on their lineup, and for the Horror All-Dayer, they’ve gone way back to the year 1936 to bring you a 90th anniversary screening of the first-ever lesbian vampire film, Dracula’s Daughter. While various other films within this subgenre might be considered problematic from a modern point of view and while the representation in this film isn’t perfect, it is a massively progressive piece of queer representation for 1936 with overtones that are impossible to ignore. Incredibly bold for its time, this important piece of LGBTQIA+ cinema deserves a lot more recognition and is one of the rare sequels that manages to outdo its predecessor.

Carmilla is a vampire with a hopeless crush on Laura, an effortlessly cool writing major. To cope, Carmilla throws herself into toxic distractions: hooking up with a Mormon closeted lesbian whose blood tastes like repression, and murdering men (even though she finds masculine blood absolutely revolting.) Torn between hunger and heartbreak, Carmilla's unlife is spiraling. But obsession, like immortality, is hard to kill.
