What if She's the Man had been made by and for a new generation of queer and trans audiences? She's the He, the whip-smart debut from writer-director Siobhan McCarthy, lovingly riffs on the gender-swapping teen comedies that defined the 2000s, taking their familiar setup and turning it into something fresh, funny and joyfully trans. When best friends Alex and Ethan pretend to come out as trans to silence rumours they're gay, their gloriously misguided plan takes an unexpected turn as Ethan begins to realise she really is trans.
Packed with razor-sharp comedy, big heart and a proudly queer perspective, She's the He playfully reclaims the tropes of the Y2K teen movie while asking the questions those films never could. The result is a hilarious, heartfelt celebration of friendship, identity and self-discovery that feels both comfortingly nostalgic and thrillingly contemporary...finally putting trans voices at the centre of the story.
