STAB: Evil Dead II
Sam Raimi’s gore-filled, lo-fi, hilarious splatterfest is undoubtedly the greatest remakequel of all time and has influenced countless films since first splashing onto screens in 1987. A
star-making film for Raimi that cemented Bruce Campbell (his long-time friend, muse, and on-screen punching bag) into the cult superstar that he is today. Filled with blood, guts, demons, witches, chainsaw hands, and the debut of Ash’s legendary boomstick, EVIL DEAD II was made to be our closing film of STAB Season.
A sequel and partial remake of The Evil Dead, the film follows Ash, who retreats to a remote cabin with his girlfriend, only to unleash demonic forces from the Necronomicon. After being possessed and fighting off evil spirits, a chainsaw-wielding Ash battles relentless Deadites.
With over-the-top gore, inventive camera work, and Bruce Campbell’s iconic physical performance, Evil Dead II’s mix of terror and absurdity redefined horror-comedy and solidified Ash as an icon of the genre.
