Welcome to Awesome Action Fest! An all new programme dedicated to awesome action cinema from around world - screening as part of the BFI's Art of Action Season. With this season we wanted to celebrate the artistry of action cinema throughout the ages, from some of our favourite film cultures from around the world - both with well known western titles and the iconic international films that inspired them.
During this season we're going to be celebrating a variety of action icons! Below you'll find films and programmes dedicated to Michelle Yeoh, Jackie Chan, Keanu Reeves, Bruce Lee, Edgar Wright, Akira Kurasawa and many more.
In our East Via West strand we will explore aspects of both eastern and western action cinema - the eastern masterpieces that deserve to be celebrated on the big screen - and a programme of western films that have pushed the boundaries of action cinema beyond expectations. Featured in this strand are Kung Fu Hustle, Ip Man, Ong-Bak, Hero and 13 Assassins on one day, and The Last Dragon, The Hitcher, Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World on another.
