Welcome to CULTPLEX! We are the home of cult cinema, video games, and cool nerd stuff in Manchester! Our burgeoning independent cinema is nestled in Manchester City Centre’s Green Quarter. Debuting at Manchester’s leading street food venue GRUB in 2019, we wasted no time gathering a dedicated and ever-growing audience of film, video game and pop-culture lovers, each connected by a strong passion for the glorious, communal big-screen experience.
Primarily we are a cinema doing our best to give a big screen to cult classics and genre masterpieces (with select new release thrown in), and through those screenings give a regular home for fans of those movies to come together. Events do go beyond that though!. You will find TV shows, gaming tournaments, sing-a-longs, festivals, Q&As, quizzes and the odd new-ish release.
In addition to our own eclectic pop culture programme, we pride ourselves in building and welcoming in a diverse community of filmmakers, artists, event programmers, comedians, charities and more that prove why Manchester is one of the best cities in the world. We are proud to be a new and strong part of Manchester’s ever expanding cultural scene.
We believe in the transformative power of cinema to inspire, entertain, and foster a strong sense of community. Since launching in 2019, CULTPLEX has steadily earned a reputation as Manchester's premier destination for fans of cult film (and pop culture in general) seeking a unique and enriching cinematic experience. Experiences that linger in the hearts and minds of our community, long after the credits roll!
In the five years since its launch, our small team has welcomed a variety of big-name guests to our cosy, Red Bank space. Actor Greg Sestero led sold-out crowds through interactive screenings of his infamous best-worst-movie The Room, Hollywood director Ben Wheatley joined the cinema for sell out in conversation event, while comedian Matthew Holness brought chills to Manchester via his parody horror author alter-ego Garth Marenghi months before touring the UK’s biggest venues.
Meanwhile, big-name touring comics have also visited us, with Never Mind The Buzzcocks star, Jamali Maddix, comedian Russell Kane and one-half of The Delightful Sausage, Amy Gledhill gracing our stage and delighting audiences.
A place made by film fans, for film fans, CULTPLEX offers a refuge for all those who feel stuck between the soulless multiplex experience and swanky meals-on-sofas in boutique venues. Simply put, we’re religious about the cinematic experience- so much so that it influences pretty much everything we do.
